The largest country in South America consumes a huge portion of its eastern coastline. It is well known for being a warm, welcoming country, with football the game of choice and carnivals popping up all over the place. Brazil is a wonderful place to purchase a home, and not just for its low prices. The architecture in the country is absolutely astounding, but when you are talking about a country which was created and governed by the Portuguese for most of it’s history, you are bound to have some amazing buildings. There is plenty to do and see in Brazil, no matter whether you’re in the country or in the city.

Buying Property in Brazil

Brazil is one of the countries that makes it fairly easy on foreign investors to purchase property and land, but there are still pitfalls you might encounter. Most people who want to purchase a home in Brazil choose to do so using the help of an agent. An agent who is familiar with purchasing homes in Brazil are often able to guide their client through the legal path and to help them find the best piece of property on the market in their price range. Agents also help to bridge the language gap. They will be fluent in the language and will give you the ability to converse with any prospective sellers much easier than it would be if you were trying to do so without an interpreter.

Lawyers

A lawyer is an investment that you can’t afford not to make when it comes to purchasing a home in another country. A lawyer will make sure that your paperwork is filed correctly and that everyone follows through with the promise to purchase the property. After all, it would be horrible to put 10% down and to have a buyer back out with no way for you to get your money back. One of the easiest ways to find a good lawyer is to ask your agent. Agents often work hand-in-hand with lawyers to ensure that their clients are able to purchase their home easily and legally.

Costs of Buying a Home

Just like with anywhere, the costs of purchasing a home in Brazil can range from very inexpensive to fairly expensive. When you purchase a home in Brazil, you will have to deposit a down-payment. This amount can change but is generally around $3,500 American dollars or so. There will also be transfer fees which will be around 5% of the purchase price. Foreigners getting mortgages in Brazil is a tricky thing and generally does not happen. This is planning to change but as of right now it is necessary for a foreign investor to pay cash for the property.

Where To Live

So you want to live in Brazil, but where should you move to? That depends on which area of the country you prefer. If you’re looking for somewhere inland, check out Boa Vista or Campo Grande. Most people, however, buy property on the coast of the country. Sao Paulo is a popular city. It is Brazil’s richest city and has been influenced by a touch of every culture. Rio de Janeiro is also a popular place to buy a home and is known throughout the world.

Owning a home in Brazil is not only a way to get great coffee, it is the perfect place to escape and relax or simply invest.
