Caribbean Islands

Virtually everyone is familiar with the Caribbean islands. They are a beautiful set of islands located just south of Florida. A prime destination for weddings, honeymoons, and vacations, the Caribbean Islands is a beautiful place to visit or live. Some people believe that owning a home in the Caribbean is an impossible dream, but with a little bit of planning, a little bit of money, and some help from a few people, almost anyone can own a home in the Caribbean.

Beginning Your Search

The first thing you need to do on your search to own a home in the Caribbean is to find the island that you want to live on. There are a few different ways that you can do this. The first is to visit the search engine of your choice, and start searching on individual islands. (You can also see some video guides for some of the Caribbean islands here.) You can look at images of the islands, and you can also examine the economic standpoints of these islands. Alternately you can hire an agent to help you in your search. Hiring an agent is usually a good idea, as they not only know how the process should be, they also know the islands like the back of their hands. You can find homes for any price, but one good thing to know is that if you invest a half a million dollars or more into the Bahamas, you become a permanent residence of the Bahamas, which can help you when it becomes tax time. Not everyone has that kind of money to put into an investment or vacation home, but if you do, it’s well worth it.

Once you’ve picked an island, look for a residence. It does not have to be a beachfront property. Most people tend to look immediately at the beach front residences, but these homes come with a host of problems, including corrosion, sand flies, and hurricanes. Instead, look for something that is not directly on the beach but is very near to it. Having an agent is a valuable tool at this point because they may have a good idea of what properties are available that would suit your needs.

Finding a Lawyer

The next thing you should do, once you’ve hired an agent, chosen an island and also a home, is to contact a lawyer. Lawyers are always recommended when you are purchasing a home as they are able to make sure that everything is handled correctly when it comes to the paperwork. If you are looking for a good lawyer, make sure that you choose one that lives on the islands, and one who is familiar with your agent.

Where to Live

Unlike most countries, the Caribbean offers a veritable plethora of places to live. There are a huge number of islands, and each island has beautiful cities and beaches. Popular islands include Cuba, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands, but some of the smaller islands can be more private, thus more enjoyable, to live on. Islands like Saint Lucia, Martinique,
