A typical Ligurian House with stunning sea views. The village of Manarola is situated within the unique landscape of the Cinque Terre National Park. The property has been renovated to a high standard, and accommodation is provided over four floors with the additional benefit of a roof terrace. The ground floor entrance leads to a living and dining area with fully equipped kitchen, with an additional kitchen on the 3rd floor providing access for dining on the roof terrace. Bathrooms are situated on the 1st and 2nd floor, and each include a shower, toilet and bidet. The bedroom on the 1st floor has two single beds, the bedroom on the 2nd floor has a double bed, and a double sofa-bed is available on the 3rd floor. Cars are not permitted in the village, and, as the property is a five minute walk up a steep hill from the centre of the village, it is not ideal for very young children or the infirm.
The unique landscape of the Cinque Terre (the five lands) was listed by UNESCO in 1998 as a World Heritage Site. The National Park now protects the landscape and encourages conservation of the dry stone walls built to cultivate vineyards on the steep terraces that slope down to the sea. The crystal clear waters of the Cinque Terre were made a Marine Protected Area in 1997 to protect the rocky seabed, the habitat of a diverse range of coral. The village of Manarola dates back to the 12th century, and the area remains famous for its white wine, pesto and anchovies. As vehicles are not permitted in Manarola, travel to and within the Cinque Terre is best by train, boat or by foot. The purchase of a 1, 2, 3 or 7 day Cinque Terre Card issued by the National Park enables unlimited use of the trains, buses and paths within the area. The best beaches are at Monterosso and Bonassola which are reached easily from Manarola. However, it is possible to swim off the rocks in Manarola.
