Belem
Belém is known as one of the most beautiful, historical places in Lisbon. Belém was the departure point of most of the world-changing explorations, during the Age of Discoveries. Here you find the most important monuments; such as the spectacular Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (where Vasco da Gama is buried) this magnificent monastery and its church are considered Portugal premier work of Renaissance, Torre de Belém which was built on the north bank of the Tagus River to defend Lisbon and Padrão dos Descobrimentos. Belém is also known because of its beautiful museums. The National Museum of Coaches is one of the most visited in Portugal. This is placed in the former Royal Riding School, which occupies the Eastern wing of Belém Palace (Nowadays the Official Residence of the of the President ). On walking distance you find the principal pier of Lisbon: `docas´, the docks, famous by its nightlife and amusements such as bars, restaurants, discos and pubs.

It is right in the centre of things and offers you, great sort of restaurants, from sea food, to regional dishes, a covered market, supermarkets, wine shops to die for. The antique tourist tram Nº 15 stops near the building and whisks you downtown past the major monuments plus passes the nightclubs and Fado houses.
Within walking distance (75 meters), there are Train station and bus terminal. The train takes you to the amazing coastal town Cascais. Lisbon is Europe’s best-loved city destination, where else can you combine a cultural and historic vacation with golf and beach holiday.

Sintra is situated 30 kms from Lisbon and can be reached by rail. The station is 5 minutes walk from the flat. Sintra has 2 Royal Palaces, is refreshingly green and cool in the summer and is a World Heritage Site.
