This beautiful Normandy chateau was originally constructed in 1641 as a "manoir". Extended in 1724 and 1758, this estate sits in the heart of Normandy near the utterly charming and quaint port town of Honfleur and the Victorian town of Deauville, famed for its casinos and nowadays, annual film festival and horse racing. The current owners purchased the ch+óteau in 2003 and have undertaken a renovation project which has fused a stylish mix of modern furnishings with the Chateaus classic features. They remain commited to the renovation process with the addition of new facilities, paintings, furniture and objets dart each year, and many improvements to the landscaping. In keeping with its history, the chateau has many gardens, all with different themes. Dine on the terrace overlooking the formal garden with its central fountain, bordered by the chapel, and the pavilion. Relax in the Italian walled garden bordered by espaliered fruit trees: ideal for a picnic, aperitifs or a game of chess! The cottage offers a contrast to the opulence of the Chateau. Once a carriage house, now used as a garage, store room and for extra accommodation. The plants on the top of the thatch are planted there on purpose to bind the top of the thatch together and are irises and houseleeks. Houseleeks are traditionally believed to help protect the house from witches! There is a chapel within the grounds which was built in 1724 and is still consecrated. It can seat about 12 people and has been used recently for weddings, blessings and baptisms. There is a strong horse racing tradition in this part of Normandy. The focal point is the racecourse in Deauville. There is a programme throughout the year, but the summer season is the most important. The "Boucles de la Seine Normande" Regional Nature Park, Monet s house and garden and The Bayeux Tapestry are nearby. Norman cuisine is famous throughout the world, especially the cheeses such as Camembert, Livarot and Pont lEveque and Calvados - the apple brandy. Seafood is excellent, butter and eggs can be bought direct from the local farm as well as chicken, guinea fowl etc according to season. Everything is organic/free-range.local markets are excellent, the nearest is in Beuzeville on Mondays, however there are also excellent ones in Honfleur on Saturday, Trouville on Sunday and Pont Audemer on Monday. This is a beautiful Normandy chateau available to rent. |
