Aude Area Information
The village of Azille is rich in tradition. Prior to the French Revolution it was the third most important settlement in the area after Carcassonne and Narbonne and was a village of recuperation for the Black Prince during the hundred years war in 1355. The medieval fortifications are much in evidence on the southern edge of the village. The 14th century church and tree lined avenues add to the village's tranquility and strong sense of history.
A leisure lake with beach, water ski-ing, sailing, pedaloes, windsurfing and fishing facilities are less than a mile away.
The canal Du Midi flows through the southern boundary of the village.
The village has its own municipal tennis courts and "bouledrome". In addition the house's orchard provides a suitable substitute. (Boule sets are available at the house). The village also has a new children's playground.
Vineyards and Caves are the villages main livelihood. There are six within a short walking distance of the house, including one which is organic. The quality is of the highest standard particularly the blended reds and the white Viogniers.
In terms of commerce the village shops include grocery store, boulengerie, post office, tabac, bar and restaurant.
