The Pyrénées Occidentals National Park - which features some great walking and skiing opportunities - Néouvielle Nature Reserve (29km), and Bielsa Tunnel (25km) leading to Spain are all within easy range.
There are many caves to visit including I'Aspugue Caves at Labastida (20km), and mines in nearby Vielle-Aure (5km). Arreau (5km) is a medieval town that has kept the hardiness of a mountain village. Mauvezin (35km) offers visitors the I'Escaladieu Abbey. All of the villages in the Vallée d'Aure are worth a diversion and, further afield, the towns of Tarbes (70km), Lourdes (60km), Bagneres-de-Luchon (40km) and Pau (110km) are all well worth a visit.

Local skiing resorts include Pla d'Adet (1700m altitude) and Espiaupe (2200m altitude) accessed from Saint-Lary-Soulan (5km). Also Piau-Engaly (25km) and Peyragudes (30km) in the Louron Valley.
