Property for rent in Herault Herault Languedoc-Roussillon France. The house? It is shaded by the castle. Don't be impressed by the word castle- it really means a huge sandstone block wall! Parking is opposite or about 200m up the road. No garden but no traffic so "happy hour" is outside on the bench. The house is very French-after all, Gisele IS French! -Dried flowers abound, hanging down from the old beams. You enter straight into the lounge (which has two single beds, if required) and the kitchen is beyond the Languedoc spiral staircase. The kitchen has a whole range of cooking utensils, sink, gas cooker, fridge, washing machine, cupboards and shelves plus chairs and round table. In the corner is an open fireplace, which you will not need! The staircase goes up to a front bedroom (double bed), a rear bedroom (two single beds) and bathroom (shower, toilet and washbasin). Up again to the attic, where there are three single beds. You can chose from several nearby bakers. For general shopping use the market and local shops- (butcher and "alimentation" are diagonally across the square ). At the edge of town is a supermarket. Cycling is a lovely way to explore, especially within the village or along the canal. Bed linen and towels at extra cost. Please keep the shutters shut and the windows open. Finally we would ask you to leave the place as you find it. If you are expecting a villa with a swimming pool and gold taps then this house is not for you. It is our home, please look after it for us. There is book in the lounge of places of interest and we would ask you to add to it. Do let us know of any good restaurants, places of geographic or historic interest, or of good days out, undiscovered picnic spots, swimming places etc.
You must visit the Oppidum d'Enserune, a few kilometres out of town past Poihles. It is a Gallo-Roman settlement, high on a hill overlooking the plain to Narbonne. Further afield are Minerve, Lagrasse and Perpignan. Also you are not far from the Corbieres, Cathar castles and the spectacular open-carriaged "Little Yellow Train" ride up the valley towards Andorra. The beaches can be reached by express way to Valras Plage. In the middle of the village of Bize the crystal water of the Cesse forms a wonderful pool.

The main centres of Capestang are the recently renovated square just the other side of the castle alongside the massive cathedral of St. Etienne, and the canal port, which is about 500m behind the house. The port is very busy in summer when the canal is active with both hired and touring craft. In the square you can sit outside the cafes and eavesdrop or just watch the world go by. All sorts of birds can be seen along the Canal du Midi and in the Languedoc Regional Park, just 30-km to the north, where there are spectacular mountain walks. If you want to know which birds look at Keith Marsh's website at
A parasol is in the house for visits to the beaches which are about 25 minutes away by car.
