One-bedroom flat in a small apartment block situated in a quiet and attractive no-through residential street (a continuation of the much photographed Rue du Soleil) and overlooking the harbour in Port-Vendres, a small town on the Côte Vermeille where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean. Ideal for those who like hills, a rugged coastline with cliffs and creeks, superb fresh seafood and good wine.
The apartment is ideal for a couple, though it will sleep up to three people. One bedroom with king size bed, living room with sofa bed, kitchen corner, shower room, south-facing loggia (sun lounge) and outside terrasse (patio).
El Fanal was built in the mid-1980s and is built into the cliffs, immediately above the fishing port, boatyard and renowned wholesale and retail fish shop and oyster bar. The flat has its own external entrance and private terrasse. It is approached up a steep ramp and external stairs, so is regrettably unsuitable for anyone suffering from restricted movement.

Port-Vendres is a working fishing and industrial port built around a large deep harbour. It is a small town (population ca. 5,500) mixing attractive red-tiled houses around and above the harbour with commercial quays and fishing nets. The view from the flat includes both stunning scenery and industrial quays. There is always something to see from the window - from small fishing boats and sailing boats to large cargo ships unloading across the harbour.
Port-Vendres is situated in the departement of the Pyrenees Orientales (Eastern Pyrenees), also known as the Roussillon, where the Pyrenean foothills meet the Mediterranean. It lies on the sunny Cote Vermeille (Vermillion Coast) which is characterised by a rocky shoreline with attractive little bays, clear waters and stunning colours. The village of Collioure (made famous by the Fauvist painters) is less than two miles north of Port-Vendres, and the Spanish border only about ten miles to the south. The nearest beaches are a short drive away, and the area is also good for snorkelling and diving.
Being a working port, Port-Vendres offers a good range of shops and several excellent restaurants (within easy walking distance of the flat) that are open all year - in contrast to other towns and villages in the area that are packed in July and August but close down out of season.
