The owners, who live next door, have lovingly restored the house, whilst retaining many of the original features - such as oak beams and stone walls. During the renovation process two large ammonites fossils were found in the front wall of the house - hence the name of the farmhouse!
To the back of the house there are very large gardens and an orchard full of apple & pear trees. There is also a 4.5 metre circular pool and an area set aside for sunbathing. There is a large patio area with barbecue and seating - great for al fresco dining and relaxing after a hard days site-seeing!
This is the ideal location for country walks, cycling along peaceful lanes or relaxing by the side of one of the nearby lakes - perhaps even fishing. The owners are always on hand with tips for the best routes and fishing spots.

The ground floor is all open plan, with a large living, dining and kitchen area. There is a TV with UK and French free to air satellite channels, a DVD player and HiFi. WiFi access is available in the house for those guests who bring their own laptop with them.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a large range cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine and there is a small breakfast bar and large dining table with seating for six.
There is a separate WC and cloakroom on the ground floor.
On the first floor there are three good sized bedrooms - one with a double bed and the other two each with two single beds. All bedroom have built in wardrobes and side tables. There is a stair gate for the security of your children.
The shower room has a shower cubicle and double hand basin, with separate WC. Two cots are available for younger children - but please bring your own bedding for these.
All other bed linens and hand/bath and tea towels are provided, but please bring your own pool/beach towels.

In front of the house is a large parking area with space for up to 4 cars. There are steps up to the front door.
There is a back door from the living room which leads to the rear gravelled courtyard where you will find a barbecue and seating area. This area of garden is security fenced with a gate leading to the pool area.
The circular pool is 4.5 meters in diameter and has a grassed area around it with sun loungers and seating nearby. The garden extends to over 2 acres - so has plenty of space to kick a ball or run around. As the house is situated on the top of a hill, there are stunning views across the valleys below and the sunsets are fantastic!
A deposit of 30% is required to secure your reservation, with the remaining 70% paid 8 weeks prior to your stay.
A Security deposit of £100/?130 is also required against any breakages.
We are able to accept payment in either Euros or Sterling, by cheque or direct bank transfer.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region
Les Ammonites is located in the Vendée Bocage, approximately a 50 minute drive from Nantes and the southern Vendée coast with its fantastic beaches. The Vendée has a micro climate, being the second sunniest part of France after the Mediterranean coast. The weather is generally good from Easter to the end of September, and the area is also a great location for autumn & winter holidays - with rural walks and bird watching nearby. The landscape is varied - with rolling hills, flat farmland with fields of sun flowers, and miles of sandy beaches along the coast.
The area also hosts several world famous competitions - with the Tour de France starting in the Vendée in July 2011 and the Vendée Globe round the world yacht race starting in Sables d'Olonne evry other November.
The Sainte Cecile / Les Chaffauds area
The hamlet of Les Chaffauds is located only 2km from Sainte Cecile, which has a bakery, butchers, chemist and a bar. Another 5 minute drive and you will reach Chantonnay whichhas many supermarkets, restaurants, banks and a weekly market.
In the summer there are many festivals and fetes held nearby, including a 3 day walking event and the French National Cycling Championships. All of the local villages and towns hold markets and the coastal towns have lots of evening entertainment on the beaches.
Les Ammonites is only 30km from the fantastic Puy du Fou historical theme park where you will be transported back in time to the age of Gladiators, Vikings and Musketeers - an unmissable day out!
There are forests and lakes nearby to explore, and the Marais Poitevin series of inland waterways and towpaths is only 45 minutes away.
Les Chaffauds is approximately a 3 hour drive from St Malo, 4.5 hours from Cherbourg or 7 hours from Calais.
