Our Holiday Apartment is on the first floor of the wing to a fine house built in 1864 as a Gentleman's Residence, in Luccombe Road. The whole building has recently been completely renovated, with the external appearance in sympathy with the period. Internally it has been refitted throughout to a very high standard.

Our Apartment has been equipped to provide extremely comfortable accommodation for four non-smoking people. It comprises a living room opening onto a balcony that looks across the gardens to the sea to Culver Cliffs and to the mainland beyond; there is a kitchen area with granite worktops, cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, refrigerator; the seaview bedroom has a double bed and en suite shower room; the downsview bedroom has twin beds; the main bathroom has both bath and shower. We provide a digital TV with DVD player and a range of games and books. There is central heating and double glazing throughout, which makes the flat ideal for both summer holidays and off season breaks.

The house has a two acre woodland garden that runs down to the cliff top, and you have the use of this garden, with its summerhouse and garden furniture.

The house is the last one in Luccombe Road, and further up the road is Hadden's Pits, which is land owned by the National Trust. The quiet road is on the famous Coast Path, but by car it leads only to the hamlet of Luccombe.

Cowes Area Information
Shanklin is an old fashioned town in the South East corner of the Isle of Wight. The town was developed in Victorian times, largely controlled by the Popham family that owned much of the land. There are many small shops, but there is one supermarket. Shanklin Theatre puts on a surprisingly range of shows all round the year. There are numerous pubs and restaurants within walking distance from The Priory. Shanklin Old Village has a number of thatched buildings.
Shanklin Beach holds a Blue Flag for being a clean and safe beach, is seldom crowded and is ten minutes walk. It can be approached either down Appley Steps by Rylstone Gardens, through Shanklin Chine or by car from The Esplanade.
There is an efficient train service from Ryde to Shanklin, and an extensive network of buses, some of which are open-topped.

The Coastal Path runs 65 miles right round the Island, and passes the house on to Luccombe, Bonchurch and Ventnor.

Luccombe also has a Chine that drops to a secluded beach, and at low tide you can walk to Shanklin beach. The hamlet is dotted with interesting houses and an active farm positioned to shelter from the sea winds.

I will not begin to go into the rest of the Island of Wight except to say there is something for everybody's holiday whether you like dinosaurs, beaches, walking, cycling, fossils, scenic views, pretty villages and cottages, stately homes (oh Osborne), galleries, museums, donkey sanctuary, wildlife, flowers, gardens (Ventnor Botanical Gardens), zoos (Flamingo Park), eight golf courses, tennis, swimming pools, skating, riding, sailing, squash at Sandown, bowls, cream teas, steam train railway, boat trips or coach trips. The Island measures 23 miles from East to West and 13 miles from North to South. Wherever you want to go on the island "it is not very far". Although many of the cliffs and indeed the Needles are white, the Island is spelt Wight, not white.
