Pen Mill Cottage is adjacent to the River Stour on the border of Somerset, Dorset & Wiltshire adjoining the National Trust Stourhead Estate. The farm is situated in the most wonderful countryside though 5 minutes away is the M3/A303 dual carriageway which means that London is a 2 hour drive and many good sites to visit are within easy reach.

The sunny cottage sleeps 6 (+ a childs bed and 2 cots) and is the perfect 'home from home'. Surprisingly spacious, yet cosy, with large sunny rooms, the cottage is well maintained and fully furnished with all the extras you miss when you go away. The hub of the cottage is the large kitchen/diner with an AGA in spring and autumn and welcoming French doors onto the terrace.

Though we are close to sightseeing at neighbouring Stourhead gardens, Longleat, Bath, Cheddar Gorge, Salisbury, many of our guests rush back to Pen to relax on the terrace overlooking the ponds and waterfalls up the secret valley to the fields. After a couple of days sitting on the terrace overlooking the ponds and grazing cattle, sheep and horses, you will feel a new person. The peace and quiet of the farm attracts many unusual birds, deer, badgers and foxes.

Pen Mill Cottage is converted from a traditional stone barn and is completely seculed. It lies adjacent to the former farmyard which is now home to free range hens, horses, sheep and a mass of colourful flowers. There are Castle Milk Morrit sheep which are a rare Scottish breed with coffee colour wool and chocolate faces and legs. Free range chickens which wander everywhere - even the lane! Organic eggs available and our guests will have eggs to welcome them on arrival.

The farm has been in the family for nearly 50 years and is farmed organically with hedges laid in the traditional style.

The village of Penselwood was a major city of Britain during the 8th century though this is hard to imagine as it is now a rural community with only the sound of animals and owls to keep you awake at night.

All the accommodation at Pen Mill Cottage is on one floor and therefore very suitable for the elderly. Small children enjoy the large terrace and playing on the swing on the old apple tree in the garden and for older children hours of pleasure and amusement can be had damming the stream and searching for wild crayfish or playing table tennis in the Games Room which also has darts and table football. There are many toys, childrens books and DVDs in the sitting room.

Three bedrooms:Master - 1 large double bed, 1 child's bed (54" long)
Twin - 2 single beds (extra long)
Double - 1 double bed
2 cots are available on request

Two Bathrooms, one with Shower, one with Bath

The 9-hole Bulpits Golf course lies just across the river. All our guests are welcome to play and it is possible to hire clubs.

2 long distance footpaths - the Stour Valley Way (Christchurch to Stourhead) and the Monarch's Way cross the farm.

Riding is ten minutes away at Wincanton, or at Pevlings Stables, Horsington. Alternatively, bring your own horses on holiday and enjoy the superb hacking in the Stourhead woods and on the downs. It is possible to ride for a whole day rarely crossing a road. Quality stabling and grazing is available.

A popular day out is to hire bicycles and cycle along the flat towpath of the Kennet and Avon Canal. This easy ride takes you past the brightly painted barges and there are good pubs for when you need a refreshing drink. This can be an unusual way to start a day sightseeing in Bath.

We can also arrange coarse fishing on the nearby lakes at Stourhead, clay pigeon shooting at Wood Farm, Mere or you can visit The Ginger Piggery at Wylye

Farm Shops - There are plenty of local farm shops around, especially the Organic Farm Shop at Stourhead and organic eggs on the farm.

Clarks Village in Street, Somerset is about 30 minutes drive away and has something for everyone.

Penselwood is within easy reach of a number of gardens and other attractions, including Stourhead House and Gardens, Stonehenge, Longleat, Georgian Bath and the Roman Pump Room, Salisbury with
