The coastal scenery is superb, with the aptly named Roaring Water Bay and its many islands providing a feast for the senses. Huge skies, often filled with dramatic cloud formations (and more than our fair share of sun), stretch from horizon to horizon and make a perfect backdrop for the greens and blues of the seascape. The villages, themselves, are distinctly different. Schull is the more up-beat tourist town and a very busy place at the height of summer. Ballydehob is far quieter but, every Friday night, it plays host to one of the finest traditional music sessions around. Shopping is best done in Schull, but Ballydehob excels with fine health food and gourmet stores, as well as the only petrol station in the area. The house lies at the end of the road, so there is no passing traffic. The sea is a short walk across the fields and a small, sheltered beach provides a great swimming and sunning spot.
