Perfect for touring Central Italy (Gubbio, Arezzo, San Sepolcro, Cittą di Castello and San Marino are easy daytrips from the farm), exploring the beautiful unknown hilltop towns of Le Marche (such as San Leo, Mondavio, Piobbico and many more), walking or horse riding through the beautiful countryside (where ancient oaks are still protected as in the times of the Dukes of Montefeltro) or simply relax by the pool enjoying the sweeping view of the landscape. After seven years running an Organic country inn in northern Le Marche we have now added a self-catering apartment to the existing structure. The apartment, La Casina dei Tordi, stands 500 metres from the main building and the pool, it's a comfortable apartment (ground floor) with a sitting/dining room, separate kitchen, double bedroom with comfortable queensize bed and large storage area and a complete bathroom with tub/shower (with screen) and a toilet room with wc/bidet & washing machine. You'll also find a welcome basket with some items from the farm storeroom for you not to miss our wine, jams, juices, bread and fresh organic eggs. Step outside and you'll find yourself in your own private bit of garden with a terrace with loungers, chairs, table and umbrella for you to enjoy your meals al fresco or sunbath, surrounded by the amazing hills of the Montefeltro. Near the main house, you'll find a swimming pool that you share with the other guests of the Locanda. A free dsl connection is available for you to use and, should you need it, you can borrow a mobile phone (you can use it for receiving calls only or recharge the sim card and make calls). In the main building there's a wide choice of maps, information and books that you're very welcome to use. We will be at your disposal to suggest itineraries, restaurants and to share with you our tiny secrets about this beautiful and little known area. The Casina is a no smoking apartment (you're welcome to smoke outside, but please be careful during summer!) Sorry no pets. Raphael was born here. You'll be able to visit his house and see a fresco painted on the house walls by a very young Raphael and admire enigmatic La Muta in the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche inside the Ducal Palace. PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA ITINERARY Sansepolcro, hometown of Piero della Francesca, stands just one hour drive away from the Locanda. Here you can start an itinerary that will lead you to Arezzo where you can visit the marvellous frescos cycle in San Francesco church, to Monterchi to admire the Madonna del Parto and back to Urbino where, in the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, La Flagellazione and Madonna di Senigallia are exhibited. The itinerary can go on down to the coast to Rimini to see the San Sigismondo Fresco in the Tempio Malatestiano. FRANCESCO DI GIORGIO MARTINI ITINERARY The fortresses designed by Francesco di Giorgio Martini characterize the landscape of the Montefeltro area, from better-known San Leo and Mondavio down to small and unknown wonders such as Sassocorvaro fortress (its plan resembles a tortoise), Cagli, Fossombrone, Sant'Agata Feltria, Montecerignone and Frontone. He was also the creator of the twin-turretted facade of the Ducal Palace in Urbino (the famous Torricini) and the Rampa leading to the Palace from Borgo Mercatale. VIA FLAMINIA ARCHEOLOGICAL ITINERARY In the old times the Via Flaminia was the most important road connecting Rome to the Adriatic Sea and Northern Italy. Its outline through the Province of Pesaro and Urbino went across the present towns of Cantiano, Cagli, Furlo (where you can visit the ancient galleria and part of the structure of the road within the amazing setting of the Furlo Gorge), Fossombrone, Fano and Pesaro. Along the Via Flaminia there are several archeological sites (Forum Sempronii near Fossombrone, Pontericcioli near Cantiano), and the mosaics in Pesaro Basilica and the Bronzi dorati museum in Pergola, as well as many archeological museums. NATURE The Locanda is the perfect starting point for walks and treks: it stands just a few miles away from beautiful Furlo Gorge Natural Reserve with its peculiar flora and fauna (including wolves and some pairs of golden eagles), and from Sasso Simone and Simoncello Park with its distinctive geological formations.
