Situated in the south east of Barbados on the Atlantic coast in the parish of St Philip, the 5 star Merricks Beach Resort comprises seventy acres of beach front and cliff top land just 15 minutes from the Sir Grantley Adams International Airport. The resort will be managed and maintained to the highest standard by a world class resort management company.
As a guest staying in one of the luxury suites at Palmetto Bay you will enjoy 5 star service. There is a reception and concierge service within each building to ensure that guests have everything they need and provide them with all services they require, such as restaurant and spa booking, arranging taxis and sightseeing tours.
Located within the lush tropical gardens of The Merricks Beach Resort, Palmetto Bay is constructed to the highest specification with colonial-style architecture. The spacious one bedroom suites provide 460 square feet of stylish and elegant living accommodation with air conditioning and a private balcony that has views along the stunning east coast and across the Atlantic Ocean.
Each suite is finished to the highest standard and fully furnished in colonial-style, a luxuriously appointed bathroom, an interactive entertainment system with flat screen TV, internet access, stereo, personal in-room safe and telephone.
St Philip is the largest parish on the island but with less than half the population of busy Christ Church.
The parish has a different feel from its more touristy neighbour with no crowds, far less development
and a general sense of isolation. The coastline here is rugged with only a handful of white-sand
beaches divided from each other by long cliffs and rocky outcrops.
The South Coast is a curious mixture of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. This coast is more
lively than the West Coast but calmer than the East or North, so you have a happy medium.
Tourist development has only recently taken hold in this part of the Island and the area retains an un
- spoilt beauty. Once the haunt of smugglers and wreckers, the beaches of this little developed area
are some of the finest on the Island. Only a handful of attractions are dotted around, with the most
famous being Sam Lord's Castle. This superb mansion which has an interesting past was built in 1820
by Samuel Hall Lord, who made his fortune by luring ships onto the nearby rocks then pillaged them
in true pirate fashion.
Guests at Palmetto Bay can enjoy breakfast, light lunches afternoon tea or dinner whilst savouring the stunning views across the bay at any of the three Roof Top Cafés.
Leisure facilities at Palmetto Bay include:
Several freshwater swimming pools situated within the gardens, all with a concierge service for drinks and snacks.
The Fitness Centre comprising state-of-the-art cardiovascular and physical training equipment, including resistance weight machines, treadmills, bikes, cross trainers and rowing machines.
The Sports Academy offering expert tennis, football and cricket coaching for all ages and abilities.
Watersports Centre offering, snorkelling, catamaran sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and waterskiing.
The Resort has several bars and restaurants which offer guests a choice of cuisine, including The Merricks Beach Club with terraces and gardens providing relaxing, shaded areas to enjoy cocktails and casual dining by day and night.
The Island Sanctuary Spa has indoor and outdoor treatment suites providing a range of massages, beauty treatments and holistic therapies, as well as yoga, Pilates, Reiki and meditation.
The Merricks shopping mall is a small collection of boutiques offering a choice of fashions, gifts and jewellery. In most shops you have the opportunity to make your purchase at tax-free prices.
