Delta- and paragliding:

Theere are two centres for extreme sports, situated in the town of Sopot, 5 kms away from the town of Karlovo. They attract visitors, extreme sport enthusiasts and nature lovers alike from all over the world.

There are many activities to take part in at the centre, paragliding, paintball, mountain biking, mountain boarding and trekking. A childrens play area, picnic tables and cafe providing food and drink is next to the landing zone for the flyers. There is also a meditation centre. Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Balkan mountain range, Stara Planina, travel the chair lift to the top of the mountain for breathtaking views across Sopot and the valley beyond. This is where you will find the paragliding take off point.

The new adventure playground has just opened with an obstacle course suspended from the trees. There are safety nets under each area and qualified, English speaking staff on hand supervising the course. The centre is an excellent day out for all the family.

The active cross-country flying season lasts from April to September (when the thermals are normally usable between 11 am to 6 pm) but there have been very good flights (50 km and more) throughout the rest of the year. In winter, the air is usually very stable (inversions) but with many sunny days and good for beginners. During the second half of May (and occasionally in June and July) it might be unstable with cumulo nimbuses, but they 're not so fast developing (like in the Alps) and you can choose between zig-zag flying around them or escape in the valley if it feels rough. There is a local light east wind in the most of the valley (no strong valley winds), which combined with a main west wind is perfect for out-and-return flights and interesting competition tasks.
