Most Bulgarians don't know what the credit crunch is, yet they are giving their houses away for peanuts. Just for how long this buying opportunity will last though is anyone's guess!
THE PROPERTY
The word file which I have been sent on this house starts 'Village Mansion'. It then goes on to suggest that this would have been built by a very rich man.......Or most probably built for him, if he was that rich.
The 'Mansion' is huge, it has 300m2 of accommodation! That's 3x the normal size of Bulgarian dwellings. It offers 11 rooms, spread over 3 floors. Internal staircases connect all of them, as well as the roof space.....
Described as "light and airy". Great scope offered for at least 2 internal bathrooms of a good size. The ground floor has 3 rooms, and on this floor there are exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings. My colleague suggests at this point that something quite fantastic could be here, and looking at the photos I have, I can concur. (oh, if you want to see more photos, just email me a request. There is so much written here about this property, I'm not sure if I can fit it all in. Errr... 1750m2 of land is included in the sale. On the land there are 2 barns, one of which is huge, and could be converted into another dwelling (as if you needed any more space). The property is bounded by a wonderful random stone wall, which provides an enviable feature.
Oh my word, it just gets better still......The house is set within a great village, said to be peaceful, and with property of a similar ilk as this. Oh, and the photo of the lake you see opposite. well, that is just 1/2 a mile away. And almost finally, if that's not sold you, the most famous hunting reserve in Bulgaria, owned by one of the richest men in Bulgaria, just happens to be on your doorstep too!
The final words in front of me here, suggest that the property would lend itself to be a great little Hotel/guest house. Or better still, you could keep this lttle piece of heaven all to yourself..........

THE VILLAGE
The village of Kalenik and its population of just 173 is situated some 10 miles west from the town of Lovech. As suggested above, the village is small, peaceful, and demonstrates its former glory as a wealthy village by many of the fine buildings contained within! Though basic with its amenities, access to Lovech is really very easy. There you will benefit from one of the most rapidly emerging towns Bulgaria has to offer. There is a new 5 star hotel being built in the centre, on the banks of the Osam river. There are plans in place for a Spa resort on the outskirts, and when I was there some weeks ago, the people of Lovech were proud to be blessed with a new Piccadilly store. (the Bulgarian equivalent of Waitrose!).........Just 90 mins will have you at Sofia international airport. Here you will be able to travel with already 2 budget airlines, currently offering services to and from the UK from just 99p one way plus Tax...........
