Conca was an eminent painter (Neapolitan school) of his age and he was patronized by important characters such as the Cardinal Ottoboni, who introduced him to pope Clement XI. After 1720s, Sebastiano Conca had become Rome's greatest painter, receiving a endless number of commissions for frescoes and sending his altarpieces throughout the Old Continent.
His masterpieces were sought and commissioned by the aristocracy of all Europe. He worked for the Savoy family in Turin, enjoyed the royal patronage of Charles III, King of Naples, Sicily and Spain. Among some of the most famous pieces of art the “Jeremiah” painted for the church of St. John Lateran in Rome. Many of his masterpieces are displayed permanently in some of the most important museums worldwide such as J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles), Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Courtauld Institute of Art (London, UK) and the Smithsonian American Art Museum (Washington D.C.)
