The resort of Albena is situated 32 km north of Varna and just 12 km south-west of Balchik on a long sand stretch in the open northern part of Varna Bay. The sea town of Balchik (25 km) is one of the 100 National Tourist Sites, famous with its Botanical garden and The Castle architecture park complex, which has been residence of the Romanian Queen Maria in the beginning of 20 century. The town of Balchik is a centre of many cultural events – a lot of music, film and other festivals are held there annually. There is yacht harbor, which can anchor 60 yachts. There are three Golf Courses nearby and variety of sports could be exercised in the area - diving, yachting, golf, etc.

Dobrich Municipality is situated in northeastern Bulgaria and is a part of Dobrich District. It is among the municipalities with largest area in Bulgaria. The population centers in the municipality are located as a ring around the municipal and district center at a distance 30 - 35 km from Dobrich city. The administrative-territorial organization of Dobrich Municipality in non-traditional given the fact that there is no natural administrative center, therefore all population centers are in equal position. Two main railway lines cross the territory of the Municipality, which carry cargoes from the ports on the Danube and the Black Sea to Sofia and the southern Balkan countries. Varna port is located immediately next to the Municipality, and only 210 km away from the border is Bucharest international airport.
Agriculture is the most important part of the Municipality`s economy. The Municipality is one of the biggest producers of agricultural products in Bulgaria. The favorable climatic and soil conditions predetermine the traditional crops being grown: wheat, sunflower seeds, corn and others. .
The District
Dobrich Region is located in the easternmost part of the hilly Danubian Plain and Dobrudzha. It borders the regions of Varna, Shumen and Silistra. The boundaries with the Black Sea, the Danube River and Romania coincide with the national borders. The relief consists of lowlands and hilly plateaus. Low plateaus of up to 150–200 m high are very typical of this region. The area is arid, one of the driest in the country, with few rainfalls in but yet very fertile. It is called the ‘Granary of Bulgaria’. Typical of the agriculture in the region is wheat, fodder and technical crops. There is an oil and gas field near Shabla. The region lies remote from major international transport corridors that pass through the country. |
