Charming Beach Front Bungalows Sao Miguel do Gostoso - Natal, Brazil – Perfect for Watersport Fans
Villagio KoalaHaus has established a new and very unique project in Sao Miguel do Gostoso. The city of Sao Miguel do Gostoso is located 120km from Natal, Capital of Rio Grande do Norte. Placed at the corner of the continent, where the Portuguese navigators Gaspar de Lemos and André Gonçalves left a monument in 1501 symbolizing the possession of this continent by the Kingdom of Portugal. It has beautiful beaches, constant breeze and a peaceful and friendly population. Soon it became well known for being one of the best places to practice sailing water sports. Lovers of Kite surfing and Windsurfing are frequent visitors.
The city was founded on September 29, 1884. Around 1899, a man called Miguel Felix Martins, feeling the urge to pay a promise for a disease being healed by a miracle, decided to build a church and placed a Saint Archangel Miguel Statue in the altar, which granted him the nomination of protector of the city. According to the legend, there was a man who lived in the region and used to host travelers who passed by. People would say that it was “Gostoso” (Charming) to stay at Mr Manuel’s house. That is why he was then known as Mr. Manuel “Gostoso”. His laughter combined with a good chat and stories of all kinds, made the region known as “Gostoso”. Everybody loved to pass by and enjoy happy days while listening to Mr. Gostoso stories. Then they began to call it the city of Gostoso.
The first hostel in Gostoso was inaugurated in 1989, after access to the city was improved, and became very popular within tourists from around the world. São Miguel has gained lot of media coverage and attracted many people looking for a quiet place to rest, and enjoy a beautiful landscape and sports. São Miguel do Gostoso has grown its infrastructure for tourism with a variation of bars and restaurants as well as pousadas.
Today, Gostoso has established an infrastructure that not only supports the growth of tourism. The new airport in Natal enables a much easier access to Gostoso. So you see regular visitors over the weekend coming from Brazil's major cities, many of which have or are planning to establish their own home in Gostoso. In addition, the trend towards sustainable energy combined with excellent wind conditions makes Gostoso an important place for companies related to development and maintenance of wind farms in northeastern Brazil.
