Town House Zurrieq, Malta
One of Malta’s oldest towns and steeped in history, Zurrieq is in the South West of Malta and has a population of approximately 12,000 people. It’s a traditional town, full of beautiful architecture and a fascinating heritage dating back more than 300 years. History lovers can look back further; even as far as the Bronze, Punic and Roman times as the town and surrounding countryside are peppered with tombs, pottery, catacombs and roman cart ruts. Zurrieq is unspoilt, a treat for traditionalists and a haven for people who prefer a quieter life. But nowhere is far in Malta; the capital city Valletta is only 7km (4.5 miles) away, Sliema and St Julian’s just 8km and airport is just a short 5 minute drive. Access to the rest of the island is also excellent and with the near-complete construction of the Marsa fly-over, road connections will be at their best. The Town House This enchanting house is situated on the Pjazza, the main square opposite the church. A resplendent and grand building with enormous potential for exceptional private living or commercial/office use. Spacious bright rooms with Maltese tiled floors, large shuttered windows and white-washed walls make this property so versatile for its next owners. It’s an exciting, recently updated blank canvas; be it for a stunning state-of-the-art residential home, an impressive head office or a chic boutique hotel. Stepping through the majestic solid oak front doors, the grandeur of the property is immediately evident. The palatial hall is adorned with beautifully sculptured walls and ceilings dating back to 1648. There are two lateral rooms to your left and right and as you step further into the heart of the building, a courtyard ahead and kitchen to the right. To the left a marbled sweeping staircase ascends to the next level with three bedrooms and a bathroom. One of the bedrooms at this level was once used as a sala nobile; and today is perfect for a luxurious drawing room, a grand hotel suite or a ‘wow’ board room. All of the bedrooms are large enough to make into suites, including en-suites and walk-in wardrobes. The two bedrooms at the front of the property enjoy traditional open Maltese balconies, the larger of the two rooms (the former sala nobile) also has a double length closed balcony. At this level there is also a study that leads through to a ‘garigor’; a typical Maltese winding staircase that leads to the expansive roof terrace atop the property. The roof is a super vantage point for surrounding views but also perfect for watching the village festas (traditional church celebrations) as well as an idyllic spot for al fresco entertaining. The property also has a vaulted cellar accessible through an external door.
